Sierra vs Wind River Range - finally did both and one was way harder on my feet

Last summer I did a 6 day loop in the Sierra Nevada, then this summer I did a 5 day loop in the Wind Rivers. Both around 50 miles. The Sierra kicked my butt with ankle twisting granite slabs every day. But the Wind Rivers? All that loose talus and those steep passes had my feet destroyed by day 3. I thought I was ready after the Sierra but no. Anyone else notice one range is way rougher on the feet than the other?

Hold up did you try adjusting your laces differently for the talus stuff? I mean I had way less foot pain in the Winds once I started really cranking my heel lock laces and leaving the front of my boot loose. The Sierra granite is more about that constant micro-adjusting your footing every single step which is its own kind of torture. But that loose scree in the Winds where you never know if your foot is gonna slide six inches or six feet messed with my ankles way worse by the end.

In my experience having hiked both, the Wind Rivers really got me too with that loose talus shifting under every step. Doing a lot of downhill scrambling on those steep passes made my toes feel bruised for days after, way more than the Sierra granite.
