Shoutout to the ranger at Grand Teton who rerouted me around Hurricane Pass last August
I had my whole 4 day loop planned out through Cascade Canyon and up over Hurricane Pass, and she stopped me at the Jenny Lake backcountry desk to say a storm had taken down a bunch of trees on the switchbacks. She sketched out a detour through Avalanche Canyon on the back of my permit instead. It added about 6 miles but the wildflowers in there were nuts and I had the whole valley to myself. Anyone else gotten a last minute reroute that ended up better than the original plan?
That detour through Avalanche Canyon is a solid save. I got bumped off the Paintbrush Divide loop in 2021 when a bear was hanging around the campsites and the ranger sent me down Granite Canyon instead. Way less crowded, and I ran into a moose and her calf knee deep in the creek around mile 4. Some of those unplanned routes end up being the part you actually remember.
