Serious question, has anyone else had a perfect weather window just vanish on the Lost Coast Trail?

We had a solid forecast for 4 days of sun starting last Tuesday, so we drove up to the Mattole River trailhead in Northern California. Woke up on day two to a wall of fog so thick we couldn't see 50 feet, and it never lifted for the next 48 hours, making the rocky sections a total slip hazard. What's your go-to backup plan when the coastal weather just nopes out on a long trek like that?

Totally feel that! The same fog bank turned our hike into a total soup sandwich last fall.

Ever feel like the coast just looks at your plans and laughs? My backup is to bail inland to the nearest town with a decent diner and wait it out. Trying to push through that slick rock fog is how you end up with a sprained ankle or worse. Sometimes the smart move is just admitting you got beat by the weather and getting a hot meal instead.

Got a favorite go-to diner for those unplanned stops, or do you just take what you can find?
