PSA: planning my route by daily mileage beats planning by campsite every single time
I used to plan trips by picking shelters and campsites first, then figuring out how many miles fit between them. On a 5 day run through the White Mountains two years ago that got me a 17 mile day followed by a 4 mile day and my knees hated me. This spring I flipped it. I picked a daily mileage range of 12 to 15 miles and only then looked at where the campsites landed. Same total distance, way better rhythm, and I actually had energy to cook dinner at night instead of just passing out. Has anyone else switched their planning order like this, or do you all build around specific spots and just deal with the big days when they come?
