My phone died once in the White Mountains.

Sounds like a good way to get into real trouble. Batteries die and service drops out when you need it most. A paper map is cheap insurance.

My phone died once in the White Mountains. Did you figure all that out before you got stuck or did you have to backtrack and find your way blind? That's the real test, isn't it? Paper maps don't glitch out on you at the worst moment.
