Got turned around trying to find the old fire lookout trail off the PCT near Sisters, Oregon. That detour ate up almost four hours.

Oh man, that's rough! I used to just wing it with paper maps and think getting lost was part of the fun. But a wrong turn that costs half your daylight is a brutal teacher. Now I'm totally sold on loading the GPS app with the trail saved offline before I even leave the house. It just saves so much headache and lets you actually enjoy the hike instead of stressing.

Oh man, has that happened to me too... spent two hours going in circles looking for a cutoff near Timberline once. GPS was no help because I had no signal and the map I printed was from like 2010, so it was totally wrong. Really killed the vibe for the rest of the day and we barely made it back before dark. Now I always download the trail on two different apps just in case one glitches out... learned that lesson the hard way for sure.
