Followed a 'shortcut' on my hiking app and wound up wading through a creek

App said it saved two miles. Ended up soaked and late for camp. Why do these digital routes not account for water crossings?

Used to totally trust those shortcut alerts until @lindaa92's friend had to swim with his pack, lol. Now I just assume the app wants me to get wet.

My friend tried that once and had to swim across a creek with all his gear.

Did he check if the trail was still there before following the app? I always pull out a paper map when the route looks too strange. Getting that wet would ruin a whole trip.
