Wiring harness tape direction was backwards for 3 years until a rep pointed it out

I always wrapped lacing tape the way my first crew chief showed me, which turned out to be against the MIL spec. A Harness rep at an airshow in Phoenix asked why my ties were facing the wrong way on a sample I had laid out. He showed me the actual wrap direction in the manual and I felt stupid right there on the carpet. That simple change fixed a bunch of chafing issues I had blamed on other parts for years. Anyone else get tripped up by a basic spec detail after doing it wrong forever?
