TIL those cheap fiber optic testers from Harbor Freight aren't total junk
I was sure it would fail on a real aircraft harness, but it found a break in a 737's galley call system cable in under a minute. Anyone run into a surprisingly decent budget tool lately?

No kidding! I grabbed their little multimeter on a whim for a home project, and the dang thing has held its calibration for over a year now. It's my go-to for quick checks when I don't want to drag my good Fluke out.

Over a year and still calibrated" is basically the multimeter version of finding a unicorn. My cheap one drifts so bad I have to guess if it's measuring volts or just its own disappointment. Sounds like you accidentally bought the one decent unit they shipped that month.

Heard some guys say the cheap ones can actually be decent if you get lucky with the batch?
