That time a senior tech told me to swap the LRU before checking the wiring
Spent 2 hours ripping out a bad encoder box on a CRJ only to find the real problem was a chafed wire bundle the old guy overlooked, now I double-check every schematic before pulling anything have you ever had a senior guy steer you wrong on a quick fix?

Yeah I've been there too, that sinking feeling when you're elbow deep in a swap and realize the old guy missed the real issue. @derekjenkins is right, they just get too comfortable with their usual fix and stop checking the obvious stuff.

132 trips on that same checklist in my logbook right now. It's funny how the most experienced guys sometimes develop these blind spots, like they've fixed the same thing so many times they assume the quick fix is always right. I see the same thing at the hardware store when the old timer tells you to grab a certain size bolt without checking the actual thread pitch. It's not that they're trying to steer you wrong, they just got comfortable and stopped looking at the basics. Now I always check the wiring diagram first, even if the senior guy is standing there saying it's a bad box.

Yeah but doesn't that get even worse when the old guy is super confident about it? Like you think damn he's been doing this since before I was born so he must be right but then you waste all that time and feel like an idiot for not trusting your own eyes first.
