That $90 pinout tool I bought that does the same thing as a multimeter
Picked up a fancy pinout tool from the AES booth in Oshkosh last summer, figured it would save me time tracing harnesses. Turns out it only works on specific connector types I rarely touch. Anyone else buy a specialized tool that ended up being a paperweight?

Seventy five bucks for a wire tracer that claims to find breaks behind walls. Bought it off a tool truck because the guy swore by it. Used it exactly once and it kept beeping at random spots where there was no wire at all. Now it sits in the bottom of my box next to that specialty crimper I bought for a single job three years ago. Guess that's the price of thinking you're being prepared for everything.

Hang on to that thing for another 10 years and maybe you'll run into one of those connectors, @emery19. Until then it's just a very expensive paperweight with a cool button.

Tbh my buddy bought one of those and his dog chewed the probe off before he even got to use it.
