Stop calling the rad alt a radar, I watched a new hire get roasted for it in Wichita
The radio altimeter doesn't send out radar pulses like a weather radar does, it just bounces a beam off the ground to give you AGL. Last Tuesday in Wichita a new guy asked the lead where the radar dish was on the tail of a King Air, and half the hangar laughed at him. I get why people mix it up though, the boxes look alike and both have 'radar' on the paperwork somewhere. Our shop has a laminated card taped to the bench that says RAD ALT IS NOT WEATHER RADAR in bold sharpie. Anyone else deal with this mix up on the line?
