Picked the used spectrum analyzer over the new one, no regrets so far
Had to choose between a $4,200 refurbished unit with calibration certs or a brand new box at $6,800 for my bench work in Tulsa. Went with the refurb after checking its last service date, and it's been dead accurate on 14 installs over the last month. Has anyone else had luck buying test gear secondhand from the big surplus outfits?
Been running refurbs off and on for years and the calibration cert is the whole ballgame. If the last service date is recent and the cal lab is legit (not some in-house sticker job), you basically got the same box for two grand less. One thing to watch is the firmware version, since surplus units sometimes sit on old builds that won't talk to newer software. Also keep an eye on the input connector wear if it saw heavy bench use, those can get sloppy before anything else goes. Sounds like you did your homework and it's paying off on those installs.
