Just realized those $30 'smart' circuit testers from the auto parts store actually work for basic continuity checks on aircraft wiring harnesses, lmao.

Remembered a guy at the field using a cheap multimeter to chase a ground fault in his Cessna. He found the bad splice, but the meter died right after. Guess it gave its life for the cause.

Hold up, that's actually a really bad idea. Those cheap testers can put out a lot more voltage than you realize. Aircraft wiring, especially on older planes, has really thin insulation meant for much lower test voltages. You can zap a wire and damage it without even knowing, creating a hidden problem that shows up later. It's just not worth the risk for a few bucks saved. Always use a proper meter made for aviation work.

Ever wonder why old planes smell like ozone after a bad wiring job?
