I finally figured out why that Garmin G1000 was giving us phantom AHRS faults

Turns out the shop in Phoenix that did the last pitot-static check used the wrong type of sealant on a static port adapter, causing a slow leak. We chased that intermittent fault for a week before a dye test found it. Anyone else seen sealant compatibility issues cause weird data errors?

My uncle had a Cessna 172 that kept showing a 10-knot airspeed error on climb out. The mechanic spent two days checking the pitot tube before he found a tiny spider web inside the static line port. The thing was basically acting like a tiny, weird pressure damper. It's wild what can mess with those systems.

Read about a similar case where a mud dauber nest in the static port caused erratic altimeter readings. Those tiny ports are so easy to block with the smallest debris. Makes you wonder how often bugs are the real gremlins in aviation.

Yeah but I feel like calling bugs "gremlins" lets human error off the hook, like what happened with @umathompson's uncle's plane. A good preflight check should catch that stuff.
