Fluke 87 vs cheap meter in Tulsa, I made the call

Back in March over in Tulsa, my old multimeter finally gave up after a drop off a wing stand. I was staring at two options at the pawn shop and the supply house: a used Fluke 87 for 140 bucks or a brand new no-name meter for 45. I grabbed the Fluke because I've seen too many cheap meters give weird readings on resistance in humid hangars. First week it was fine, but then I was chasing a intermittent fault on a Cessna 172 and the readings stayed rock solid even when I wiggled the leads. The new one might've worked, but for something I trust with my diagnoses, I'll spend the extra cash. Anyone else run into a situation where the cheap tool cost you double in troubleshooting time?
