Unpopular opinion: enclosed shipping is not worth the extra $600 for a 10 year old Camry
Everyone on here swears you need enclosed transport for anything nicer than a beater. I shipped my 2011 Camry from Austin to Portland last month and the broker quoted me $1,050 open versus $1,650 enclosed. I went open. Car showed up with one new rock chip on the hood and a layer of road dust. That was it. I pulled the shipping contract from the FMCSA site and it turns out the carrier's liability cap is the same $1,000-ish range either way unless you buy extra coverage. So I am paying $600 more for a prettier trailer but the payout if something goes wrong barely moves. I get enclosed if you have a restored classic or a car with fresh paint, sure. But for a daily driver with 140k miles, that $600 is better spent on a timing belt. Am I missing something here, or is enclosed mostly a peace of mind thing people talk themselves into?
