PSA: Shipped my Civic from Phoenix to Seattle open transport, then enclosed for the trip back, and I get why people pay the extra $400
Moved out to Seattle last July and had my 2016 Civic hauled from Phoenix on an open carrier for $850, and it showed up with a cracked windshield and a layer of road grime baked into the paint. Three months later I needed it back in Phoenix and the quote for enclosed was $1,250, which felt steep until the driver walked me around the trailer and showed me how everything gets strapped to the floor rails with soft ties instead of chains. Car came back spotless, not one new chip, and the pickup window was a 3 hour range instead of the 2 day runaround I got the first time. If your car is anything you care about, the gap in price is smaller than the gap in how you feel when it rolls off. Who else has gone both ways, and did enclosed ever feel like overkill for a daily driver?
