Open vs enclosed transport for a 1998 Civic from Phoenix to Seattle

I moved my Civic from Phoenix to Seattle two months ago and went with open transport for $850. My buddy shipped his Focus the same route a month before on an enclosed trailer for $1,600 and honestly I can't see what the extra $750 bought him. Both cars showed up with the same layer of road dust and no scratches, and mine actually arrived a day earlier. Is enclosed ever worth double the price for a regular daily driver, or is it just peace of mind people pay for?
