Open trailer vs enclosed for a 900 mile run, I finally picked a side

Had to ship a 1967 Mustang from Nashville to KC last month. Every quote I got was split between open and enclosed, about $650 difference on average. I went with open because the car is a driver, not a trailer queen, and the paint already has chips. Saved the money, car showed up in 4 days with zero issues. But the guy next to me at the pickup lot was shipping a 2024 Corvette enclosed and he paid almost double. Made me wonder if I got lucky or if open is just fine for most daily drivers. Anyone else run open on something they cared about and regret it?

The open vs enclosed thing gets oversimplified honestly. You mentioned the paint having chips, but open carriers still kick up rocks and road grime that can add new scratches, not just show old ones. I ran an open hauler for a 70 C10 I cared about way more than I should, and it came back with a fresh ding on the fender that wasn't there before. Saved $600 but spent $200 fixing that and a weekend of my time. For a daily driver that already has wear, sure, open is fine, but don't think it's totally risk free.
