Just realized shipping a car across state lines costs way more in summer

I sent a sedan from Phoenix to Seattle last June and it ran me $1,200, but a buddy moved the same route in February and only paid $800. Figured it's because more people move when the weather's good and demand spikes. Anyone else notice prices change with the seasons like that?

Yeah but is it really that big of a deal? Like you save $400 in the winter but then you have to worry about snow and ice and all that crap. Not worth it to me honestly. Plus you said yourself it's just demand going up in summer, that's literally how any business works. I get it's annoying but it's not some hidden conspiracy or anything. Just pay the extra money or wait until it's cold out, simple as that.

Wait until it's cold out" is exactly the problem though, @the_nina. We're not all just choosing to move in July for fun. Jobs, leases, school years, those don't wait for the weather to cooperate. I get that demand spikes in summer, that's basic supply and demand, but the kicker is the moving companies KNOW this and they jack up the price per mile, not just the truck rental. I looked at moving my one bedroom 300 miles and the quote was literally double what my buddy paid in February for the SAME route. Same truck, same distance, same amount of boxes. That's not just "business," that's pricing people out of basic life changes because they can't time their life around a calendar. And the snow thing, I'll take shoveling a driveway over paying an extra $400 any day.
