Appreciation post: my $75 Jeep part from a Craigslist guy in Tucson took 11 days to ship and taught me a dumb lesson
I sold my old Jeep last spring and the buyer in Phoenix needed a rear driveshaft. I live in Tucson so I figured I would just ship it, easy, right? Wrong. I took it to a shipping place near the airport and the lady at the counter quoted me $180, which felt insane for a 40 pound chunk of metal going 120 miles. So I tried to box it up myself at home. I spent 2 hours building a crate out of scrap plywood, wrapped the shaft in 3 towels, and dropped it at a UPS Store on Broadway. They said the box was 5 inches too long and charged me a $25 oversize fee anyway. It sat at the depot for 4 days because I wrote the zip wrong on the label. Total time from start to the buyer's door was 11 days for a drive that takes 2 hours in a car. Next time I am just driving it up myself and eating gas money. Has anyone else had a small part turn into a week and a half headache like that?
