Put a cut piece of pool noodle on my garage wall and my door has zero dings after 8 months
My wife parks a little close on her side and I kept finding new chips on the edge of my driver door every couple weeks. I tried the stick on rubber strips but they fell off in the summer heat within a month. Then I sliced a cheap $3 pool noodle down the middle and wedged a 4 foot piece right where her door swings open, held on with two screws and fender washers. It looks dumb but it has soaked up every hit since January and the paint on both cars is still clean. Anyone else use foam or rubber stuff on the wall instead of buying those fancy garage mats?
My buddy Dave in Tucson did something real close to this. His wife's SUV door kept hitting the wall stud, so he zip tied a chunk of that grey pipe insulation around the stud, the stuff with the slit already cut in it. Cost him like 4 bucks at the hardware store. That was two years ago and it's still there, sun baked and kinda crumbly looking but it still works. The noodle idea is smart too because it's thicker, more cushion. Only thing I'd watch is the screws pulling loose over time since foam tears easy. Maybe add a washer on the back side or glue a thin strip of wood to the wall first so the screws have something solid to bite into.
