My uncle swore by a $12 can of fluid film, and my truck frame says he was right
My uncle has been undercoating his trucks every fall since the 90s, and he kept telling me I was wasting money on fancy rubberized sprays. I finally caved two winters ago and bought a $12 can of Fluid Film, sprayed the frame and wheel wells of my 2014 Silverado before the first salt hit here in Rochester. Fast forward to now, my mechanic put it on the lift for an oil change and pointed out the frame still looks clean with barely any surface rust, while my neighbor's identical truck from the same year is already flaking apart. The catch is you have to reapply every single year before winter or it washes off, and it smells like a wet sheep for about a week. I'm on my third can now and I'm a believer, but I'm wondering if anyone here has tried the lanolin stuff versus the wax based ones for longer protection. Has anyone run a rust converter first and then coated over it, or is that just asking for trouble down the road?
