Warning: I swore off impact wrenches on lug nuts for good, then ate my words on a rusty F-150
I used to hand-thread every lug nut because a shop buddy in Reno told me torque sticks were lazy and impacts just snap studs. Then a guy rolled in with a 2011 F-150 where the last lube tech had hammered the nuts down with a 1/2 inch gun set to full power, and every single one fought me. My breaker bar was bending and I was sweating through my shirt before I grabbed the impact on the lowest setting, zipped them off in maybe 90 seconds, and threaded them back by hand so nothing cross-threaded. I still finish with a torque wrench at 150 ft-lbs, but I was wrong about the impact being the problem, the problem was never using the right setting. Curious if anyone else runs a torque stick on the way back on, or do you just snug them by hand and call it good?
