Vent: I was convinced a 3-ton floor jack was overkill for my home garage until I tried to lift the front end of my F-250 to replace a brake rotor.
My old 2-ton jack struggled and started to weep fluid halfway up, so I bought a Pittsburgh 3-ton from Harbor Freight for $180 and it lifted the truck like it was nothing, making the job way safer and faster.

Still sounds like a total waste of money to me.

My first real job had me lifting an old Chevy 2500 that would squat down real low when I tried to get a jack under it. I ended up using a stack of 2x4s to get enough height. That's usually how it goes in my experience. People think spending more is a waste until they see how much easier the right tool makes the job. It's like buying a good set of pliers versus using a cheap pair that keeps slipping. Sometimes paying a little extra saves you a lot of time and hassle in the long run.
