Trying that fancy ultrasonic cleaner on an old carburetor
Picked up a cheap ultrasonic cleaner from Harbor Freight last month, threw a crusty 2-barrel Rochester from a '78 Chevy in there. Ran it for 3 cycles and it dissolved gunk I thought was permanent, but it also vibrated a tiny passage plug loose that I didn't even know was there. Has anyone else had hidden parts fall apart after a good cleaning?

That line about the "tiny passage plug" is exactly why I'm scared to try this on my Quadrajet. Did that plug just float to the top when you pulled it out, or did you have to go fishing around for it after the cycle finished?

Wait, you're saying you actually fished it out after the cycle? That's terrifying. I thought for sure it would just get sucked into the tank and you'd never see it again. Man, that little plug is the reason I've been putting off rebuilding my Q-Jet for about three years now. The thought of losing a tiny piece like that inside the carb and having to pull the whole thing apart again gives me the shakes.

@pat_coleman I USED to think ultrasonic was a gimmick but that floating plug changed my mind.
