My parts guy kept pushing the $8 copper crush washers over the $1 fiber ones, I figured he was just upselling me
I brought in the drain plug for my 2012 Civic last month and he handed me a pack of copper washers instead of the usual fiber ones, and I rolled my eyes a little at the price. Figured a $7 difference on a washer was pure markup, so I ran the fiber ones anyway on the oil change. Two days later I had a slow drip in my driveway in Phoenix and had to pull the plug again, and sure enough the fiber washer had crushed flat and stopped sealing. I switched to the copper, torqued it to spec, and it's been dry for 3,000 miles now. So is the copper thing actually legit science or did I just get a bad batch of fiber? Anyone run copper on everything or only certain pans?
