First timing chain job on a 5.4 Triton actually went smooth

I tackled a 2008 F-150 with the dreaded 5.4 Triton this weekend, expecting broken guides and a nightmare. Turned out the old timing chain had stretched about 4 degrees off from the cam phasers after 140,000 miles. Did you guys run into the whole VCT solenoid cleaning trick on these, or just swap em out?

Did you end up finding any leftover gasket material in the oil pan baffles too, or was that just my luck? I swear I spent an hour digging out silicone chunks from the last guy's work.

Silicone chunks are just extra baffling, free oil pan upgrades basically.

The VCT solenoid cleaning thing is hit or miss honestly. I just swapped mine out since they were cheap enough and it saved me the headache of doing the job twice. Gotta love when the truck actually fires up and idles smooth after all that work lol.
