Dropped $450 on a 'lifetime' scan tool that died in 14 months
Bought this fancy Matco scanner thinking I'd save money long term. Battery crapped out and they want $200 to fix it. Any of you guys have a budget brand that actually lasts?

Hold on a second here. You're blaming the tool when the real issue might be how you treated it. I've seen guys leave their scanners in a hot truck bed all summer or let them sit in a wet toolbox for months. That lithium battery is sensitive. If you'd kept it charged regularly and stored it in a climate controlled space, it might still be kicking. Plus, that $200 fix is a new battery and a full recalibration from the factory pretty much a brand new unit for half the price of the original.

Yeah, I've had pretty good luck just keeping mine in the case it came with and charging it every few weeks even when I'm not using it. Might not work for everyone but that battery has held up way better than my buddy's who throws his in the truck bed.
