Customer in Klamath Falls told me my scanner was a toy, then handed me a hammer
He stood over my $2,800 Snap-on scanner, pointed at the P0171 code, and said 'that thing never fixed nothing,' then asked if I'd ever heard of percussive maintenance for the O2 sensor, so has anyone else dealt with a DIY guy who thinks hitting things is a diagnostic step?

Ha! I feel your pain, I once had a guy tell me my multimeter was just a fancy paperweight and then tried to "fix" a fuel pump by smacking it with a wrench. It worked for like ten seconds, so he looked at me like I was the crazy one. I almost handed him my torque wrench and asked if he wanted to try percussive maintenance on my back, since I'd thrown it out laughing so hard!

And here I thought hitting things with a hammer was only for stubborn jar lids and bad printers. Ten seconds of working probably just made it worse, now the thing is both broken AND has a dent in it. Next time offer him a screwdriver and ask if he wants to try surgery on a toaster. Honestly, some people treat a toolbox like it's a bag of magic rocks. At least he gave you a good story out of it, so that's something.
