Tried fishing line instead of welding wire on a cracked bumper tab and it held way better than I thought
Had a 2016 Civic rear bumper with a cracked tab that nobody wanted to pay to replace, so I drilled two small holes and ran some 30 lb braided fishing line through them with a little plastic welder backup. Customer came back 4 months later for an oil change and the tab was still solid, no sag at all. I figured it would last a week tops. Anyone else ever used something totally off label for a repair that just worked?
Fishing line. On a car. And it worked. Next thing you know guys will be fixing exhaust leaks with ramen noodles and super glue. I used a zip tie to hold a heat shield on a truck once and told the guy it was a "temporary fix." That zip tie outlasted the truck. Four months on that bumper tab is wild though, braided line has zero give so I bet it's just sitting there laughing at every pot hole.
