That 'new' primer I bought was already separated - caught it just in time

Grabbed a gallon of high build primer from a shop I don't normally use last Tuesday. Seemed fine in the can but when I sprayed it on a fender repair it came out all watery and thin. Let it sit for 10 minutes and the whole panel looked like orange peel mixed with craters. I called the supplier and they told me the batch was three months past shelf life. Cost me two hours of sanding and a full redo on a job I quoted for $450. Has anyone else run into bad primer batches from smaller supply houses lately?

Shake the can for a full five minutes before pouring next time... that's what works for me.

Three months past shelf life? That's just plain negligence on their end.
