That $120 paint thickness gauge was a total scam, but my $15 magnet trick works every time

Picked up a cheap electronic gauge off Amazon last month to check a customer's door before blending. Thing read 8 mils on bare steel, then 22 mils on the same spot 5 seconds later. Absolute garbage. I ended up going back to the old magnet method where you feel the pull strength through a piece of paper. Cost me $15 for a set of calibrated magnets and honestly it's saved my butt on three jobs since. Anyone else ditched fancy tools for the low-tech stuff that just works?
