Switching from filler primer to epoxy primer changed my paint work completely

I used to lay down filler primer on every repair, thinking it was the best way to block sand and get a smooth base. Did that for about 5 years straight on all my jobs. Then about 2 years ago a senior tech at my shop in Cleveland told me I was wasting time and money. He showed me how epoxy primer seals better and doesn't shrink back like filler primer does over time. I fought it at first because I was used to my old routine, but now I only use epoxy unless I need heavy build. The adhesion is way better and I get way fewer come backs from customers. Anyone else made this switch and had a similar experience or do you still stand by filler primer for certain jobs?

That whole thing about sticking with what you know even when it's not the best... it's a trap we all fall into. I see it everywhere, not just in body work but in how people cook, how they organize their garage, even how they talk to their spouses. It's like once you get a system down your brain just shuts off and says "this is right" because it's comfortable. Took me way too long to realize that my stubbornness was costing me money and quality.

So what finally pushed you to break out of that comfortable rut and try something different?
