Switched from plug welds to spot welds on a quarter panel last week
Plug welds always took me forever to clean up and they never looked clean. Spot welds cut my time in half and look factory fresh. Anyone else find spot welding way easier for this kind of work?

Always thought plug welds were the only way but you might have just changed my mind.

You changed my mind" - that's the part that got me thinking. It's funny how we get locked into one way of doing things, not just with welding but with like... everything. I've been going back and forth on this whole debate for years, started with plug welds and now I'm leaning more towards the other approach for certain jobs. Makes me wonder how many other things in life I'm stuck on just because that's how I first learned it.

You know what, you're right about that being the kicker. @derekjenkins, I feel like we all get so locked into the first thing that works, like how my first welding project looked like a bird's nest made of metal but I still swore my technique was perfect. It's funny you mention plug welds, I spent a good three years trying to perfect those before I realized I was just making pretty holes in scrap metal. Now I'm questioning if I even know how to properly hold a mug of coffee, everything's up for grabs.
