PSA: burned $1,100 on a "dry ice" dent removal kit, and one side of me still thinks I just used it wrong
Bought a full kit last month with the blower, the rubber cup, the whole thing, because a guy on YouTube made it look easy on a hail-damaged Civic. Tried it on a quarter panel dent here in Bellingham and after 2 hours the metal was still wavy, so I paid a PDR guy $150 for the same dent he knocked out in 20 minutes. Now I'm split, either these kits are a total money pit for anyone without real training, or I just never learned the right heat and pull timing. Who here has actually made one of these work on a sharp dent, and what did you do different?
What did the dent actually look like though? Sharp creases with stretched metal are a whole different animal from a soft door ding, and that matters way more than your heat timing. If the metal got stretched, no amount of dry ice or heat gun is going to shrink it back, you need to work it with a rod from behind and tap it down. The YouTube guys never show the ones that fight back, they just show the easy pop. So was yours a crease or more of a shallow bowl shape?
