Pro tip: Use a heat gun on old adhesive before sanding... learned the hard way

Had a 2017 Ford F-150 in my bay Tuesday, tried sanding down some old trim adhesive dry and it just smeared everywhere. Took me an extra 45 minutes to clean it off with solvent after. Anyone else got a better trick for getting that sticky residue off?

Nope, I gotta disagree on using a heat gun. Sure, it works for some stuff, but on a Ford like that you're just asking for trouble. That smearing you got sounds like the adhesive melted into the paint instead of coming off clean. I always use a rubber eraser wheel on a drill, it pulls old adhesive right off without any heat or mess. Takes maybe 10 minutes tops for a whole truck bed. Way less cleanup than dealing with that sticky goo.

You tried an eraser wheel on a Ford before?

Did your buddy try the eraser wheel trick after the heat gun mess?
