Learned the hard way why you don't skimp on filler

Tried using a no-name brand of body filler from a discount auto parts store last month. Cost me about $12 for a gallon and I figured it couldn't be that different. After sanding for what felt like forever it still had pinholes everywhere and I had to strip it all off. Ended up buying Evercoat instead for $45 and that job went smooth in half the time. Anyone else get burned trying to save a few bucks on filler?

Did you have any issues with the cheap stuff curing weird? I used a bargain brand once and it stayed tacky under the surface, total nightmare.

Got the same problem with a cheap UV resin I tried once, @lane.cameron. I thought I was saving a few bucks, but nope, it stayed sticky even after a week under the lamp. My wife called it my "tacky phase," which I guess is fair because I'm usually a mess with crafts anyway. I ended up scraping it all off and starting over, which took way longer than if I'd just bought the decent stuff. So yeah, I learned my lesson the hard way, and now I'm a snob about brands. Stick with the ones that cure hard or you'll be peeling goo off your projects like me.
