Just learned my paint gun was set wrong for 2 years

I was at a shop in Nashville last week and one of the old timers took a look at my work. He asked about my fluid tip size and I told him 1.4 like always. Turns out the clear I've been using needs a 1.3 and I've probably been wasting material and getting worse coverage the whole time. Swapped it out and the difference on the next panel was night and day. Anyone else ever run something for years only to find out you were doing it basic wrong?

Man, what kind of clear were you spraying that needed a 1.3?

Yeah I actually had a similar headache with a high solids clear a while back. I was using some old school Sherwin Williams stuff that just wanted to run like crazy if you went anywhere near a 1.4 tip. Ended up switching to a 1.3 and it laid down way better with less orange peel but the coverage was a pain. Had to really slow down and overlap more than I was used to.
