Had an old Ford truck come in with bondo so thick I found a soda can inside the quarter panel
The owner said his uncle did the work in the 80s and I guess he figured a crushed Pepsi can was as good as metal, has anyone else found random junk inside body filler on older cars?

I used to think body filler was just cheap paint and plaster, but that soda can story really changed my mind. You bet I've seen all sorts of junk inside old cars, like crushed beer cans, old rags, even a piece of a hubcap once. It's amazing what people would use back then to prop up a dent, thinking it would just get covered up and forgotten. That old Ford truck must have been a real surprise when you started digging into it, I bet the owner didn't know half of what was hiding under there. But it sure does make you appreciate the folks who actually take the time to do bodywork the right way, with rust repair and all.

Yeah, that bit about the hubcap really got me... I remember pulling a taillight lens out of a quarter panel on an old Pontiac once. Someone had smashed it in, stuck a whole lens over the hole, and just packed mud and Bondo around it. You'd never know until the rust started showing through. @lindaowens you're right, it makes you really respect the guys who cut out the rot and weld in fresh metal instead of just hiding it all.
