Collision shop in Phoenix made me rethink PPG vs Sherwin
I stopped by a buddy's shop in Phoenix last month, just grabbing a coffee and chatting. He was spraying a 2022 F-150 that had a nasty side hit, and the color match on the basecoat was dead nuts perfect. Now I've always been a PPG guy, swore by it for 10 years because that's what my first boss used. But he showed me the Sherwin system he switched to 6 months back, and the mixing process was just way more straightforward. He pulled up the formula on a tablet, it adjusted for lighting conditions automatically, and the final blend under their booth lights looked identical to the factory. Made me wonder if I've been overcomplicating my whole setup, or if Sherwin just works better on modern Ford paint codes. Anyone else swap brands after seeing a good demo at another shop?

Oh man, that's exactly how I got pulled away from PPG! Saw a guy nail a Toyota pearl white with Sherwin and the formula adjustment for booth temp sold me on the spot. I've been using their system for about a year now and it's just simpler day to day, especially on newer trucks.

I used to be a diehard PPG guy too, thought anything else was a step down. But I saw a buddy's booth with Sherwin, the pearl he laid down with that temp adjustment blew my mind, totally changed my mind. @brown.gavin, you're right, it's way more forgiving on modern clear coats, has it simplified your blend times too?
