The 'please explain' trend finally clicked for me after 30 years

I used to think those Parliament explainer videos were just for tourists taking the piss, but last month I watched the one about the Emu War and something just clicked with how our memes actually work. Now I'm seeing the same pattern in every viral aussie clip, the setup, the deadpan, the absolute chaos of the comment section. Has anyone else had that moment where a joke you always ignored suddenly becomes the whole way you see things?

Mate, that hit way too close to home. I spent 30 years thinking those videos were just polite ways to confuse Americans, then suddenly I realised my whole personality is basically a stand up routine that only my own brain finds funny. The deadpan bit is real though, I once explained to my missus why a magpie attacking a bin chicken was peak comedy and she just stared at me like I'd grown a second head. Now I can't watch a cricket replay without narrating it like one of those explainer blokes and honestly it's made me a worse person but a happier one. Cheers for making me feel less alone in this massively specific realisation, lol.
