Widefield Milky Way shots beat my $1200 telescope photos, every time
I spent 6 months saving for a nice telescope and tracked astro setup, got some decent shots of nebulas and planets. But last week I borrowed a friend's old DSLR and a 24mm lens, no tracker, just a tripod in Joshua Tree. Stacked 40 15-second exposures and the Milky Way core photo blew away anything my scope ever produced. The colors, the context, the sense of scale, it felt like a real night sky instead of a crop in a black box. Everyone talks about aperture and focal length, but nobody warns you that deep space objects look flat without a widefield anchor. Am I the only one who thinks the cheap route gives you more wall-worthy images than the expensive one?

...it's like that with everything these days, people get so caught up in the gear that they forget the picture itself is what matters, kinda like how everyone obsesses over the perfect kitchen knives but a simple cast iron pan gets the job done way better.
