Yeah that bit about the expensive telescope not mattering as much hits home. I was totally in the camp that believed better gear was the only upgrade path. Seeing what stacking can pull out of single frames from a basic setup completely flipped my view on what's important. It actually makes the hobby way more accessible, which is the best part.

Forget the gear, what about the time? Stacking needs hundreds of frames, which means hours of babysitting the setup. That's a huge hidden cost if your clear nights are rare or you've got a job.
