That radio observatory closure notice I saw got me checking my data backups
I scrolled past a post about a small observatory in Arizona shutting down after 30 years and losing their archive to a hard drive failure. It made me realize all my processed astro photos are sitting on one external drive, so I spent yesterday copying everything to two more drives and a cloud service. Anyone else here backing up their raw files differently since reading that?

Oh, I never bother with all that redundancy myself. If a drive dies, those photos are gone and honestly I have the memories in my head, so why pay for cloud storage or extra drives for something I rarely look at again?

My neighbor lost every baby photo when her laptop died last month, and she still gets teary telling me about it.
