That one night I shot the Milky Way core from my backyard and got skunked by clouds
I planned this whole week around the new moon, checked Clear Sky Chart, set my alarm for 2 AM. Got my rig set up at 1:45, had my intervalometer dialed in, and then a solid layer of marine layer rolled in from the coast in like 10 minutes. Didn't get a single usable frame of the core, just gray haze. Has anyone else had a perfect plan wiped out by local microclimate stuff?

Marine layer is the absolute worst, it's like the ocean just decides your night is over on a whim. Solidarity from someone who's been betrayed by coastal fog more times than I can count.

Betrayed by coastal fog" is such a perfect way to put it.
