Spent 20 minutes at a dark sky park in Montana watching tourists ruin their own photos

I was at Glacier National Park last month and noticed about 15 people using their phone flashlights to illuminate their telescopes and cameras while taking long exposures. Has anyone else dealt with folks just not understanding that white light kills night vision and ruins the shot for everyone nearby?

Used to be that guy with the flashlight until someone called me out.

Pretty much this. People drop serious cash on gear but skip the basic etiquette that makes it work for everyone else. Most of this stuff is just common sense that gets thrown out the window the second someone pulls out their new toy. A little patience and awareness would solve half the problems on this thread.

Pretty much sums up how people act with everything nowadays - buy expensive gear but never read the manual or learn the basics. Same thing happens at concerts with phone cameras blocking everyone's view or people blasting music on speakerphones in public.
