My $800 camera sensor got fried by a stray porch light during a meteor shower shoot in my own backyard last night.

I was so focused on framing the Milky Way that I didn't notice the neighbor's new motion light kept triggering, ruining two hours of exposures and forcing me to pack up and just go to bed, so has anyone else had a session completely wrecked by unexpected local light pollution?

My neighbor's new solar walkway lights turned my attempt at the Andromeda galaxy into a weird abstract art piece last month.

My buddy's security camera IR LEDs ruined his entire time-lapse of the Orion Nebula.

That's a brutal way to lose a camera sensor. It makes you wonder about the legal side of light trespass, doesn't it? Some places have actual rules about how much light can spill onto a neighbor's property. Maybe a friendly chat about your fried gear could lead to them adjusting the light's angle or sensitivity. Have you looked into whether your town has any dark sky rules they might be breaking?
