Last month I noticed something weird in Milky Way shots from my backyard...

Three years ago I never saw those green airglow bands in my photos, but now they show up almost every clear night from my spot in rural Oregon. Anyone else noticing more atmospheric glow in their long exposures lately?

Huh, I gotta push back on that a bit. @nathanj56, I think you might be seeing what you want to see. I've been shooting nightscapes for over ten years and the green airglow has always been there, it just takes the right conditions - a clear, dry night with low humidity and minimal moonlight. Could be you're just getting better at exposures or your sensor is more sensitive than your old camera was.

Everything is getting more intense lately, not just the night sky but the weather, the seasons, the bugs. The green glow is just another symptom of the atmosphere getting more charged up and chaotic. It's like the whole planet is running a little hotter and weirder every year.
